Clonabreany is located adjacent to the lakeland districts of Meath, Westmeath and Cavan. Hundreds of lakes in beautiful rural surroundings are home to an array of fish and Clonabreany is ringed by renowned stillwater lakes such as Lene (with Blue Flag status), Lough Bane and Lough Sheelin, famed for its mayfly fishing.

The Norman castle at Trim constructed by Hugh de Lacy in 1172 was visited by King John in 1610 and 400 years later was the location chosen by Mel Gibson for the filming of Braveheart. A short drive takes you to sites such as Fore Abbey in County Westmeath with its 'seven wonders' or the town of Kells famed for St. Columba's 6th monastery and the Book that bears its name now on display in Trinity College Dublin
